Birth of Soberanía Patrol

At the very beginning the Soberanía Patrol was composed of "Alfa" Camp under Lieutenant Francisco Florencio MENSI the command settled at the bottom of the plateau and "Beta" Camp under Lieutenant Mario Víctor LICCIARDELLO command on top of it.

From that moment on a difficult daily job started, living in small tents, transforming ice into water to survive, eating canned food, isolated in the most complete solitude, working from sunrise to sunset (when the weather permitted it), being hard at it, building the desired airstrip, the airstrip that not only has left a mark on the stone and the ice but also solidarity and heroism in the men who forged it.
