In 1969/70 the Antarctic crew of the new Vicecomodoro Marambio Air Base under Captain Jorge Abel BERRETA continued in a similar way the task started by Soberanía Patrol, making new buildings and extending the airstrip up to 1200m long.

his operational capacity the Hércules C-130 registration TC-61 commanded by Colonel Athos GANDOLFI landed with its wheels on April 11th, 1970. From that moment on it was possible to operate normally with large aircraft all year round.
